Housing Development Corporation Limited (HDC) has contracted GPL Holdings Private Limited for the development of the Southwest Harbour in Hulhumale'.
The project includes the construction of a dinghy harbor, a floating deck, and the establishment of electricity and water supply services for vessels. In addition to the vessel docking facilities at the dinghy harbour, a dedicated building for businesses will also be included as part of the project.
HDC stated that there is a current inadequacy of jetty harbours in the Greater Male' Region, As such, the dinghy harbour will address the challenges faced by vessel owners. Furthermore, the development will alleviate the absence of a harbour for cargo vessels in Hulhumale'.
The development of Southwest Harbor will incorporate a designated vehicle parking area, aiming to mitigate the vehicular parking issues in the Greater Male' Region. The plan includes provision for specific parking spaces for cars, motorcycles, and individuals with disabilities. In addition, various areas for commercial development will be created as part of the project.
