Ministry of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure has revealed that contracts with the first 4,000 flat recipients under the Gedhoruveriya housing scheme will be signed by November 17.
The planning ministry has informed individuals who were included in the final list of flat recipients and is currently sorting the list. The ministry stated that the final list will be published soon.
Under the Gedhoruveriya scheme, Fahi Dhiriulhun Corporation Limited (FDC) signed the loan agreements for the construction of 4,000 new housing units in Hulhumale' Phase II with two Indian companies in September 2021. As such, 2,000 housing units are being developed by NBCC India Limited, and another 2,000 housing units are being developed by JMC Projects (India) Limited. A total of 32 towers that are 17-18 storeys high are being developed as part of the project.
The construction of 13 of the towers, which consist of 1,600 housing units, is progressing quickly and the government aims to complete and allow tenants to begin living in one of the towers by the end of the year. The apartments will consist of two-bedroom and three-bedroom units. The two-bedroom units will have an area of 650sqft, while the three-bedroom units will have 900sqft
Currently, the concrete works of six towers have been completed while 60% of the finishing work of the four towers has been completed. The entire project is expected to be completed next year.
