The Maldives State Shipping Company Private Limited (MSS) has announced that its recently acquired container vessel has successfully arrived in Addu City carrying cargo.
The container vessel called MSS Opal has a capacity of 105 containers. The vessel, which can also carry cement, boasts a deadweight capacity of 1,553 tonnes. The vessel provides transshipment services, facilitating the transfer of cargo to and from global commercial harbors.
MSS Opal docked at Addu with the cargo brought to the Male' Commercial Harbour from foreign countries. MSS stated that the vessel is slated to depart for Addu every 10 days carrying goods from Male' making stops at Kooddoo in Gaafu Alifu Atoll and Hithadhoo in Addu.
MSS Opal had previously travelled from India to Addu in October 2020 but discontinued its services in March 2022. At the time, the company cited inadequate supplies and vessel usage in the area as the reasons for discontinuation.
