Addu City Council has handed over the land plot to the contractor tasked with developing 200 housing units in Hithadhoo.
The Mayor of Addu City Ali Nizar handed over the plot to the contractor during a meeting, in which they discussed the details of the project. The land plot allocated for the project is located in an area behind the city market in Hithadhoo.
In September, the Ministry of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure contracted PT Citramas Heavy Industries in a joint venture with Beaver Builders Private Limited for the construction of 200 housing units in Hithadhoo, Addu City. The contractor is tasked with the construction of 200 housing units within 540 days at a total cost of USD13.9 million, which will be funded by the state budget.
The housing units will be located in two 11-storey towers constructed in an area of 1,000sqft. Each unit will consist of three bedrooms with bathrooms, a living room, a kitchen, a dining area, a laundry room, and a storeroom. The project further includes a park and vehicle parking space developed in the area with the intention of creating a comfortable and pleasant environment for the residents.
It has been over 15 years since land plots have been given out in Addu, the second-largest city in the Maldives. The housing issue is the most severe in Hithadhoo, which has over 16,000 residents, and land plots were last given out in 2002.
