President-elect Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has vowed to transfer all municipal services of Hulhumale' to the Male' City Council within the first 100 days of his administration.
During a meeting with residents of Hulhumale' Phase I, President-elect Muizzu said that Hulhumale' is part of Male' and so he will transfer all municipal services to the city council as he had pledged during the presidential campaign. He highlighted that the services are being provided through the Housing Development Corporation (HDC) even though they should be provided by the council.
The municipal services to be transferred to the city council include street and public area cleaning and street lighting. President-elect Muizzu said that transferring the services will allow the city council to transform Hulhumale' in accordance with the expectations of the residents. He added that he would allocate the necessary resources while implementing the changes.
Additionally, President-elect Muizzu vowed to solve the parking issues in Hulhumale', noting that the island is becoming as congested as Male' City. He said that he would begin the construction of parking buildings in Phase I and Phase II early in his administration.
HDC is developing Hulhumale' under a specific plan. However, the lack of peaking space has become an issue as the population increases. This has also resulted in more dangerous accidents. Therefore, HDC has decided to increase the number of parking zones and develop smart parking.
