Gov't proposes USD484 million budget for health services

The government has allocated USD484 million for the health sector in the proposed state budget for 2024, which is a 48% increase compared to the budget for the health sector this year.

The health sector has always been a priority in the state budget and the expenditure on the sector is increasing year by year. The Ministry of Finance has allocated USD484 million for the health sector in the 2024 state budget, with USD1,300 per capita. The ministry allocated USD442 million for recurrent expenditure and USD42 million for capital expenditure.

Additionally, the national health insurance scheme, Aasandha, has been transferred from social security to the health sector in the proposed budget. Around USD130 million has been allocated to cover the expenditure of Aasandha, while USD74 million has been allocated for the purchase of medical supplies and consumables. The amount is 13% more than this year's budget.

Furthermore, USD29 million has been allocated for infrastructure development. In addition, USD185 million has been allocated for staff expenditure, which is 15% more than this year.
