A total of 22 doctors have participated in an advanced paediatric life support course. The course was conducted by the United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund (UNICEF) in collaboration with Advanced Paediatric Life Support (APLS) Australia and the Ministry of Health.
Doctors from Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH), ADK Hospital and Kulhudhuffushi Regional Hospital have participated in the course. After completing the online component of the course, the practical component was held at the Autism Association building in Hulhumale’ from October 31 to November 2. The instructors included six doctors from APLS Australia and four Maldivian doctors.
During the course, doctors were taught how to diagnose children after an accident or during emergencies, as well as children who are suffering serious life-threatening illnesses. They were also trained on how to identify and treat further complications from the injury or illness and provide immediate treatment to improve their condition.
Additionally, the participants were introduced to the equipment used by doctors working in Australia's major hospitals and were taught technical skills and given practical training on how to deal with various situations. It was the 6th advanced paediatric life support course conducted in the Maldives.
