Ungoofaaru Hospital opens Ufanveni Clinic

Ungoofaaru Regional Hospital has opened Ufanveni Clinic at its Reproductive Health Centre. It is the first well-woman clinic to be launched at a regional level in the Maldives.

Speaking to PSM News, Deputy Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Ungoofaaru Regional Hospital Adam Mahir said that the clinic was opened exclusively for women. He said that the clinic will have two specialists to provide special treatment, including breast cancer treatment as well as screening for cervical diseases. He said that the clinic will facilitate early detection and treatment of such diseases. He also said that the clinic will provide services five days a week, three days for pregnant women and the other two days designated to treat women with other diseases.

Additionally, Mahir said that that hospital is also taking administrative steps to launch MRI services, as part of the efforts of expanding the services provided by the hospital. He said the machinery needed for the MRI will be brought to the Maldives and installation will follow soon after. He also said that Mammography, Computed Tomography, Laparoscopy, and special heart disease treatment services have commenced at the hospital.

Developing health facilities in the atolls is one of the highest priorities of the administration. The initiative aims to reduce the reliance on the Greater Male’ Region and allow atoll residents to receive medical treatment and healthcare services near their residential islands.
