Ministry of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure has extended the deadline to submit complaints regarding the list of flat recipients for the 4,000 flats in Hulhumale'. The new deadline expires on November 10.
The final list of flat recipients for the 4,000 flats in Hulhumale' under the Gedhoruveriya housing scheme was published on November 4. Notably, a total of 20,697 individuals applied for the flats, of which 13,000 were deemed eligible.
The ministry stated that it has so far received 2,000 complaints for the three-bedroom flat category and 900 complaints for the two-bedroom flat category. The ministry stated that there is no cut-off point in the project and that the recipients were determined in the order of the highest marks, including the flats reserved for Customs employees. It further stated that the application of any individual who received a flat unfairly will be cancelled.
A crowd gathered at the ministry building to protest the housing scheme after the publication of the list. They accused the ministry of awarding points without considering the living conditions of the applicants. The ministry stated that the list was formulated based on the information on the applications, adding that officials had visited the homes of some applicants. However, the ministry acknowledged the concerns and opened the list for complaints via the online portal.
