Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation Mohamed Ameen has affirmed that the Hanimaadhoo International Airport (HIA) development project will proceed as scheduled, with no delays.
Speaking on the occasion of the International Civil Aviation Day, Minister Ameen expressed confidence that the completion of the project to develop HIA will bring significant enhancements to the aviation industry. He advocated for an increase in tourism beds in regions with ongoing international airport projects, emphasising the crucial role of airport and related sector development. He also underscored the need to prioritise skill development in the aviation industry, highlighting the sector's abundant job opportunities.
Initiated by the government in January of this year, the project aims to transform the airport in Hanimaadhoo into an international airport capable of accommodating the world's largest aircraft. The project has been awarded to India-based JMC Projects Limited.
