Aim is to establish a quality, reliable healthcare system: Vice President

Vice President Hussain Mohamed Latheef has reaffirmed the government's commitment to making dependable, high-quality healthcare a top priority for policy in the five years that follow. He made the remarks during a meeting with Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director General of the World Health Organization (WHO).

During the meeting, the Vice President thanked the WHO for the continuous support and assistance provided to the Maldives over the years and laid out the key priorities of the new Government, noting that although the Maldives has made significant progress in recent decades in healthcare, there are still many challenges to overcome. He emphasised the need to overcome these obstacles and establish a quality, reliable healthcare system.

The Vice President and the Director General of WHO expressed eagerness to work together on implementing health strategies and strive towards achieving global health targets.

The Vice President is currently in Geneva, Switzerland, to participate in the high-level event to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (Human Rights 75).

WHO has been active in the Maldives since the 1950s and established its Office in 1965.
