Traffic flow changes made in Maafannu

Maldives Police Service (MPS) has implemented changes to the traffic flow on some roads in Maafannu ward. The police service changed the traffic flow and closed off some roads to ease public convenience while workers complete the redevelopment of the last two segments of Ameenee Magu.

Speaking to PSM News, Chief Inspector Fathih Mohamed said that the section of Ameenee Magu from the Izzuddeen junction to Boduthakurufaanu Magu has been closed for redevelopment. Three other roads have also been closed, which are Izzuddeen Magu, Handhuvaree Hingun, and Kanbaa Aisa Rani Hingun. He said that the roads were closed to cut off traffic flow to Ameenee Magu.

Additionally, Chief Inspector Fathih said that changes have been made on two other roads to ease traffic. They are Buruzu Magu and the road leading to Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital and Thaajuddeen School. The direction of traffic has been changed in Buruzu Magu to prevent vehicles from driving to Kanbaa Aisa Rani Hingun while the traffic flow was changed near Thaajuddeen School to prevent parents and students from being stuck in traffic.

Moreover, Chief Inspector Fathih said cones have been placed to prevent four-wheeled vehicles from passing Muranga Magu to reach IGMH and to prevent parking on one side of Izzuddeen Magu and Muranga Magu. He said that establishing a special parking area is a difficult task but that vehicles can be parked near the food court.

Furthermore, Chief Inspector Fathih said that traffic police will be deployed in the area from 0730hrs to 2300hrs to ease the convenience of students and parents. He urged drivers and pedestrians to obey the new traffic rules and to refrain from parking in the cleared areas to prevent traffic jams.

Road Development Corporation (RDC) began the redevelopment of the unfinished segments 12 and 13 of Ameenee Magu after changing the project's scope. As such, the segments will be broader than the 11 previous completed segments. The expanded segments will incorporate four lanes to enhance public convenience upon completion.
