Fushidhiggaru Falhu removed from Gulhi jurisdiction

Fushidhiggaru Falhu has been removed from the jurisdiction of the Gulhi Island Council in Kaafu Atoll. The President's Office has published the change to the jurisdiction of Gulhi in the Government Gazette.

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu pledged to reclaim Fushidhiggaru Falhu as part of his initiative to guarantee housing for all citizens. The project involves the reclamation of 1,280 hectares in Fushidhiggaru Falhu and the allocation of 11,000 land plots and 26,000 flats from the area, which would be connected via a bridge and the high-speed ferry service.

President Muizzu's most ambitious plan to solve the housing crisis in the Greater Male' Region is the Fushidhiggaru Falhu project. The President has pledged to begin reclamation in his first 100 days in office, marking it the first time that a large housing project would commence at such an early stage of an administration.

A total of USD26 million was allocated for the reclamation of Fushidhiggaru Falhu in the proposed state budget for 2024. However, the funding was removed during the committee stage and the amount was distributed to other projects prior to the Parliament passing the state budget.
