Brigadier General Hilmy appointed as Vice Chief of Defence Force

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has appointed Brigadier General Ibrahim Hilmy as the new Vice Chief of Defence Force.

The post of Vice Chief of Defence Force became vacant after Major General Abdul Raheem Abdul Latheef was appointed as the Chief of Defence Force on November 17. Major General Latheef has also been promoted to the rank of Lieutenant General.

Brigadier General Hilmy joined the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) on April 25, 1988, and has served in various military posts including that of Central Area Commander. He has contributed to various aspects of maritime security during his 35-year career. He was the Commandant of the Coast Guard until his appointment as Vice Chief of Defense Force.
