Road Development Corporation (RDC) has completed 60% of the last two segments of Ameenee Magu in 20 days.
Speaking to PSM News, Managing Director Ali Zuhair said the last two segments are being completed according to schedule, expressing confidence that the project will be completed within 45 to 50 days. He said the company's target is to finish the project as soon as possible by working 24 hours a day.
RDC temporarily suspended the Ameenee Magu road development project in September, as instructed by the Elections Commission of the Maldives (ECM), to avoid congestion during the presidential election, as Ameenee Magu is one of the busiest roads in Male' City. The project resumed later than the initially scheduled date.
The work on the last two segments began on December 9. The project currently involves laying curbstones, dewatering and stormwater pipes as well as installing HV junctions, pipelines, and sewerage outflows and streetlights.
Additionally, RDC has completed the fieldwork at the intersection of Ameenee Magu and Izzuddeen Magu and opened the area to the public. The company has also changed the scope to develop the last two segments with four lanes, which is wider than the previously completed 11 segments.
The redevelopment of Ameenee Magu is a key priority in President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu's 14-week roadmap. The administration has allocated USD5.5 million to the project, which aims to redevelop and modernize the whole 1.7km length of Ameenee Magu.
