Ambassador-at-Large at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Mohamed Hussain Shareef has expressed that the Ras Male' development project is poised to match global model cities in its progressive design, aspiring to become a contemporary city that instills pride among Maldivians.
Speaking to PSM News, Ambassador-at-Large Shareef emphasised that the project addresses the housing challenges in the Maldives and will be three times the size of Hulhumale' upon completion. He underscored the government's commitment to making Ras Male' an environmentally sustainable city, aligning with President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu's pledge of planting five million trees in the city.
Additionally, Ambassador-at-Large Shareef highlighted the project's pivotal role in advancing the country's environmental objectives, specifically targeting a 33% reduction in fuel consumption, an agenda which was emphasised by President Dr. Muizzu during the COP28 summit in Dubai.
Furthermore, Ambassador-at-Large Shareef emphasised that Ras Male' is being developed with the welfare of citizens in mind, distinguishing it from previous government practices, such as the corporate guarantee policy. He elaborated on recent projects, including the allocation of 20 hectares for a contractor to reclaim 96 hectares in Hulhumale' Phase III and 10 hectares in Thilafushi, adding that such initiatives benefit the state without imposing a financial burden through loans.
The Ras Male' project will revolutionise the economy by bring many business opportunities to the Maldives. It is also expected to introduce more innovative changes to technology and the environment.
