Final sections of Ameenee Magu to be completed by second semester

Minister of Construction and Infrastructure Dr. Abdulla Muththalib has revealed that the final two sections of Ameenee Magu will be completed by the start of the second semester.

The work on the last two segments of Ameenee Magu began on December 9. The last two segments of the Ameenee Magu redevelopment project had remained incomplete even after the government transition. As such, the current administration is now expediting the completion of the project.

Minister Muththalib conducted an inspection of the ongoing work carried out by the Road Development Corporation (RDC). He said that Ameenee Magu, being a major bus route, requires the widening of its last two segments, unlike the previous 11 sections.

RDC stated that 20 days into the commencement of the final two segments, over 50% of the work has been successfully completed. The project scope has also been changed to widen the last two segments to four lanes, enhancing convenience for bus routes and drivers as well as pedestrians upon completion.

RDC also stated that construction of road pump stations is underway, with some stations already installed. As such, four more pump stations are yet to be built and asphalt paving of the road is imminent. The company highlighted its commitment to environmental sustainability by replacing trees that were cut down, contributing to future roadside greenery.

The Ameenee Magu road development project was temporarily halted in September, following instructions from the Elections Commission of the Maldives (ECM) to prevent congestion during the presidential election, given status to Ameenee Magu as one of Male' City's busiest roads.

The redevelopment of Ameenee Magu is a key priority in President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu's 14-week roadmap. The administration has allocated USD5.5 million to the project, which aims to redevelop and modernise the whole 1.7km length of Ameenee Magu.
