Wais Waheed appointed as Director General of NCTC

Major General (retd) Wais Waheed has been appointed as the Director General of the National Counter Terrorism Centre (NCTC).

Major General Waheed retired from MNDF on December 12 after serving 34 years. He has been appointed to the post at NCTC, which was previously held by Brigadier General (retd) Zakariyya Mansoor.

The NCTC operates under the authority vested by Article 116 of the Constitution, with a primary mission to combat terrorism and extremism. Major General Waheed brings a wealth of experience to his new role, having held various high-ranking positions within the MNDF, including Commandant of the MNDF Marine Corps, Commanding Officer of the Maldives National Cadet Corps, Commanding Officer of the College of Defence and Security Studies (CDSS), and Chairman of the Sifainge Welfare Company Private Limited (SIWEC).

The NCTC collaborates with ministries, agencies, and institutions in the Maldives to counteract terrorism and extremism both domestically and internationally. Major General Waheed's appointment underscores the commitment to strengthening national security and addressing the challenges posed by these threats.
