The Cabinet has decided to begin air ambulance services in the Maldives starting March 2024.

He added the services will be managed in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and Island Aviation Services Limited (IASL).

Further, he noted two air ambulances will be utilised for the service, ensuring efficient coverage and timely assistance across the Maldives.

The strategic initiative aligns with President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu's commitment to strengthening the health sector and prioritising accessible services for the citizens.

Emphasising the importance of this development, Minister of Health Dr. Abdulla Khaleel expressed President Dr. Muizzu's vision to extend these services to various parts of the country, providing convenient healthcare solutions to the people. He noted the air ambulance service is anticipated to significantly reduce patient transportation costs.

The government has plans to introduce major reforms in the health sector next year. In addition to air ambulance services, the prioritisation of drone delivery for medicines is slated to be a key focus, reflecting the administration's dedication to advancing healthcare infrastructure and services in the Maldives.
