President decides to enhance medical examination of resident foreigners

Following discussions on a proposal submitted by the Ministry of Health, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has made a decision to reform and strengthen the medical examination system for foreigners residing in the Maldives.

The decision mandates that foreigners, particularly those from 'endemic' countries, undergo regular on-arrival and annual medical check-ups before their arrival and throughout their stay in the country. Long-term foreigners, including those with dependent visas, work visas, resident visas, student visas, and corporate resident visas, will be obligated to undergo a medical examination both upon arrival and annually thereafter. This requirement also extends to new applicants for marriage visas.

In a further measure, the president has decreed a reduction in the period for medical examination after arrival in the Maldives from 30 days to 15 days. Additionally, the president has taken significant steps to overhaul and fortify the entire medical examination system for foreigners living in the Maldives, with a commitment to completing the medical examination of all foreigners within the country over the next six months.

The decision not only ensures the health and well-being of the foreign population but also serves as a preventive measure against the resurgence of eradicated and controlled diseases in the Maldives.
