Gov't addresses need for infrastructural development of councils

Minister of Cities, Local Government and Public Works Adam Shareef Umar has highlighted the need for infrastructural development of local councils.

Speaking at a press conference jointly conducted by the cities ministry and Male' City Council, Minister Shareef disclosed that the ministry engaged with local councils and addressed their concerns during a visit to Raa Atoll. He said that councils expressed a need for specialised programmes aimed at increasing the capacity and skills of their workforce and the prioritisation of both online and face-to-face programmes. As such, he assured that necessary preparations would be undertaken to address these issues.

Additionally, Minister Shareef highlighted the significance of two newly introduced master-level courses by the Islamic University, specifically for individuals employed at local councils. He urged individuals working in councils across the country to participate in the courses. He said that the discussions with councils also encompassed challenges related to local tourism in the islands.

Furthermore, Minister Shareef addressed the need for the establishment of suitable locations for auction shops in Male', stating that the allocation of slots and the formulation of rules and regulations would be announced in January.
