Second phase of Hulhumale' Phase III reclamation begins

The second phase of the Hulhumale' Phase III land reclamation project has commenced.

The Hulhumale' Phase III land reclamation project commenced in September, progressing in three phases. As such reclamation of Site A has been completed with reclamation on Site B initiated in October. A total of 10 hectares of land has been reclaimed in Site A and 26 hectares of land will be reclaimed at Site B. The project aims to reclaim 63 hectares of land in total.

Managing Director of HDC Fazul Rasheed conducted a site visit to oversee the progress of the reclamation process. Following the inspection, he mentioned a temporary halt in the process after the first phase was completed. He, however expressed confidence that the project would resume according to the established schedule. He also underscored President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu's commitment to allocating land for eligible individuals.

HDC has contracted Sri Lankan-based Capital Marine and Civil Construction Company Private Limited (CMCC) to reclaim a total of 63 hectares of land from Hulhumale' Phase III under the project. The final reclamation area, Site C, is slated to reclaim 24 hectares of land. The newly reclaimed land in Hulhumale' will be used for housing and land will be allocated for the establishment of public services for the residents in the area.

The previous administration had decided to allocate land plots to residents of Male' City from the newly reclaimed area, with 1,351 out of the 9,000 plots designated for allocation in Hulhumale'.
