Parliament Speaker departs to Uganda on an official visit

Speaker of the Parliament, Mohamed Aslam, has embarkED on his inaugural official visit abroad since assuming the role of Speaker of Parliament.

As part of his official duties, Aslam is set to attend the 27th Conference of the Speakers and Officers of the Legislative Assemblies of the Commonwealth in Uganda. The Parliamentary Office has confirmed the purpose of the visit but has not provided a specific return date to the Maldives.

While Speaker Aslam is on his visit to Uganda, the Parliament is currently in recess following the conclusion of its third session this year. Regular sessions are slated to resume in the first week of the upcoming month.

Despite the parliamentary recess, the matter of ministerial approval remains pending. The committee is prepared to convene an extraordinary session if such a request is made by Parliament. Consequently, the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) is seeking to convene an extraordinary session to address this pending issue.
