Heart diseases were most treated under Aasandha scheme

The national health insurance provider, Aasandha Company Limited has revealed that heart and cardiovascular patients received the most treatment under the Aasandha scheme in the past three years.

The latest statistics released by Aasandha show that a total of 57,709 individuals have undergone treatment for heart and cardiovascular diseases in the past three years. A significant number of individuals have received medical care for conditions such as diabetes, kidney diseases, lung diseases, and cancer through the Aasandha scheme during the period. The statistics show that 30,803 individuals received treatment for diabetes, 11,635 for kidney-related diseases, 35,806 for lung-related diseases, and 3,294 for cancer.

The statistics show that the government allocated USD123 million from the state budget this year for the increasing number of individuals seeking treatment for major diseases under the scheme. The company allocates 50% of its expenditure to medicines, averaging nearly USD39 million annually.

Major non-communicable diseases are increasing in the Maldives. Statistics indicate that 84% of deaths in the country are attributed to non-communicable diseases, with cancer alone causing approximately 17% of the total deaths.
