Presidential Youth Advisors board membership opens

Government has opened the opportunity to become a member of the Presidential Youth Advisors Board

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, on December 25, made a landmark announcement to establish the Presidential Youth Advisors Board. This initiative aims to provide counsel to the President on matters related to youth and incorporate the perspectives and aspirations of young individuals in shaping government policies. The decision to create the board was a result of thorough deliberations on a proposal submitted by the Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Information, and Arts during a Cabinet meeting.

The opportunity has now opened for individuals to become members of the Presidential Youth Advisors Board. This board, which will comprise 15 members aged 18 to 30, will be convened twice during a presidential term, fostering broader youth involvement. However, recognising the commitments of students engaged in higher education and those appointed to the board by the university's Student Council, it has been decided that their tenure will be limited to one year.

The Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Information, and Arts has specified that two members from the domains of arts and crafts, as well as two members from NGOs/civil societies dedicated to youth empowerment, are eligible for this opportunity. Ensuring gender balance, one woman and one man will be appointed as board members from each of these constituencies. The application window for board membership is open until the January 8.

Prospective board members must be Maldivian citizens between the ages of 18 and 30, possessing professional skills or experience relevant to their represented field. Additionally, applicants must not have a criminal record within the past five years, as outlined by the Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Information, and Arts.

The Youth Advisory Board, comprising 15 members, will include two individuals appointed directly by the President, presidents of the student councils of the national university, the Islamic University, and a private university, along with two representatives chosen from national-level athletes. Furthermore, there will be two members representing associations in the youth services sector, two members from the arts and crafts community, and a student pursuing higher secondary education.

The board will be chaired by one of the two members appointed by the President, and a distinctive badge will be introduced to identify members of this esteemed advisory body.
