Modernising Male' City roads to cost over USD100 million

Minister of Construction and Infrastructure Dr. Abdulla Muhthalib has stated that modernising all the roads in Male' City would cost over USD100 million.

At a contract signing ceremony, Minister Muhthalib said redeveloping all the roads in Male' City is a high priority and that the project will include upgrading water, sewerage and electricity systems. He also said that a stormwater drainage system and a fire hydrant system will be installed, adding that flooding in the city can only be solved once a stormwater drainage system is connected to all areas.

Additionally, Minister Muhthalib said that the undeveloped part of Boduthakurufaanu Magu will be modernised by widening it. He also said that discussions will be held to decide on whether that this initiative will be part of the road development project. He added that the project will be conducted throughout the city and not just in specific locations and in the meantime, temporary solutions such as installing more pumps will be implemented to prevent further flooding.

Furthermore, Minister Muhthalib said the government has decided to commence a project to modernise Kanbaa Aisa Rani Hingun after the completion of the Ameenee Magu redevelopment project. He said the decision was made to install a proper drainage system, noting that the road only has one pump station and tends to flood frequently.
