Minister of Economic Development and Trade Mohamed Saeed has expressed hope that the connections formed between the Maldives and China at the Invest Maldives forum will pave the way for developmental projects that will benefit the Maldives.
Speaking at the Invest Maldives forum, Minister Saeed noted that the Maldives and China have a long-standing relationship and that a new era in their bilateral relationship began after President Xi Jinping's historic visit. He said the relationship has been developing for more than 10 years and China has become an important partner in the development of the Maldives.
Additionally, Minister Saeed highlighted the crucial development projects that have been completed with the assistance of China, such as the Sinamale' Bridge and the Laamu Atoll Link Road, adding that the signing of the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) was also an important initiative for Maldivians. He expressed confidence that the relationship between the two countries will continue into the future.
Furthermore, Minister Saeed said the Invest Maldives forum reflects the development vision of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu and aims to highlight the opportunities in the country for the private sector. He also said that the participation of a large number of Chinese businesses in the forum shows their confidence in the Maldives, expressing hope that the ideas and connections formed at the forum will transform into projects that would benefit the Maldives in the coming years.
Moreover, Minister Saeed said that 80% of the Maldives' economic activities are open to foreign investment, emphasising President Muizzu's administration as one that prioritizes development initiatives. Over 300 businesses have participated in the Invest Maldives Forum in Fuzhou, China.
