Over 284,000 eligible voters for parliamentary elections

Elections Commission of Maldives (ECM) has revealed a total of 284,327 individuals, including those who turn 18, are eligible to participate in the upcoming parliamentary elections.

Vice President of ECM, Ismail Habeeb, stated that out of the eligible voters, 139,165 are women, and 145,162 are men. To facilitate informed participation, the list of eligible voters will be made public, allowing individuals to identify their respective constituencies for voting.

ECM stated upon the release of the voters' list, a window for submitting complaints will be opened. Habeeb emphasised the importance of personal responsibility in this regard.

ECM has officially scheduled the parliamentary elections for March 17, as the election coincides with the month of Ramadan and there would be administrative challenges if the election was scheduled for a later date.

Additionally, ECM stated that the last 10 days of Ramadan has been declared as public holidays, which will cause challenges in coordinating with government ministries and state agencies.
