Gov't to conduct special courses in social services and counseling

The Ministry of Social and Family Development and the Maldivian National University (MNU) have decided to conduct courses to train individuals in t in social services work and counseling. The courses are intended for employees of the social ministry and members of the public that are interested in being trained in such fields.

The ministry has opened the opportunity for a total of 100 candidates to participate in the first round of courses ranging from Advanced Certificate to Masters level. The courses include advanced certificate and bachelor's degree courses in social service and bachelor's degree courses in counseling.

Additionally, the ministry stated that the courses will be conducted in two rounds and will be opened in February and August. The first round of courses is scheduled to start in February. The ministry stated that more information about the courses will be available on the MNU website.

The main objective of the social services work and counseling related courses in the ministry is to provide education and training opportunities for those who are interested in social work and counselling. There are 19 centres providing social services to children and families under the ministry. Minister of Social and Family Development Dr. Aishath Shiham has given special priority to ensuring that the service providers are highly educated and trained in relevant fields.
