Maldives can become crime-free with public support: MPS

Police Commissioner Ali Shujau has stated that the Maldives Police Service (MPS) can make the country crime-free with public support. He made the remark at the ceremony held to inaugurate the Laamu Atoll Maabaidhoo Police Post.

Commissioner Shujau inaugurated the police post at the ceremony with President of Maabaidhoo Island Council Ibrahim Wisham in the presence of senior police officers and dignitaries from various institutions.

Speaking at the ceremony, Commissioner Shujau expressed confidence that residents of the islands will help police officers prevent crime. He highlighted the importance of establishing a police presence to maintain public safety and security. He also said the main principle of policing is working together with the community to prevent crime, expressing hope that the people and the police would work together to do so.

Additionally, Commissioner Shujau said that the planning and organization of the police service for the next five years will improve the delivery of police services and standards in Maabaidhoo. The plan includes giving more decentralized powers to the regional police posts, training officers, providing more technical resources and developing an initiative for the council, citizens and police to work together to create a crime-free community.
