NDMA provides shelter to 81 individuals from 14 homes

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has provided temporary shelter to 81 individuals from 14 households.

Speaking to PSM News, Chief Executive Hisan Hassan NDMA said that temporary shelter had been provided to 81 individuals. He, however, noted that the specifics of the damage in Male' City would only be determined after a thorough assessment. As such, he announced that an assessment of the damage incurred by the households would be carried out.

Additionally, Hisan said that five islands experienced damage due to heavy rains on January 12. He said that Komandoo in Shaviyani Atoll, faced severe flooding, leading to substantial damage to five households. He also said that residents of the island had to be evacuated from their homes.

Furthermore, Hisan disclosed that households in Dhiyamigili in Thaa Atoll, Maamendhoo in Laamu Atoll, Guraidhoo in Thaa Atoll, and Kudahuvadhoo in Dhaalu Atoll also reported damage. He also said that flooding and property damage were reported in some households across the four islands.

The Maldives Meteorological Service (Met Office) has forecasted clear weather for January 15, providing a potential opportunity for authorities to escalate relief efforts and conduct assessments for the affected communities.
