President Muizzu congratulates Male' City Mayor-elect Azim

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu congratulated Adam Azim, Mayor-elect of Male' City, via phone call. Adam Azim ran as a candidate for the vacant mayoral position at the Male' City Council on the ticket of opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP).

During the phone call, President Muizzu assured Azim that the Mayor and the city council would have the government’s full support. He implored the Mayor-elect to work alongside the government’s decentralised governance policy on issues concerning citizens. He further expressed his hope that the city council would continue to work with the government.

The administration has officially initiated the process of delegating municipal services in Hulhumale' to the Male' City Council, per the 14-week roadmap. Transferring all municipal services in Male' City to the council is among President Muizzu’s presidential pledges.

The government has additionally secured financial and additional arrangements for the announced social housing mega-project aimed at resolving the housing shortage in Male' City. In addition, following the President's state visit to China, the required finances to redevelop the roads in Male' City have been secured. The administration is presently exploring the financing of public low-interest loan schemes for apartment purchases and housing construction.
