No changes in final results of Jan 13 by-elections

The Elections Commission of the Maldives (ECM) has announced the final results of the by-elections held on January 13, which show no change to the interim results.

On January 13, by-elections were held to elect the Mayor of Male' City and three Male' City Councilors. The Women's Development Committee (WDC) by-election was also held on the same day.

The final results show that Adam Azim, the candidate of opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), won the Male' City mayoral by-election, with 44.81% or 7,621 votes. Around 31.84% of the 54,680 eligible voting population had come out to cast their ballot in the mayoral election, which is 17,410 voters.

In the Male' City Council by-election, ruling PNC candidate Aminath Rishfa Ahmed won the women's seat for South Henveiru Constituency with 411 votes. PNC candidate Hassan Nizam won the seat for South Maafannu Constituency with 383 votes, and MDP candidate Ahmed Rishwan Rasheed won the seat for Central Henveiru Constituency with 320 votes.

Additionally, Zaeema Abdul Rasheed won the Mulah WDC seat with 243 votes. ECM stated that 32% of the 56,002 eligible voters cast their ballot in the by-elections.
