Male' City Council has handed over 11 projects to the government ministries to expedite the work. The projects include new projects, as well as projects related to the expansion and development of existing services.
Male' City Council handed over projects that are in the planning stages and for which land plots have been allocated. The decision to hand over the projects was made after 9 of the 10 council members voted for the motion during a meeting. The projects handed over to the relevant ministries total USD6.5 million in value.
The projects and their scheduled completion date are as follows:
1. Villimale' Commercial Building (29 January 2025)
2. Male' Wholesale Centre (23 June 2026)
3. Male' Mixed Local Market (29 January 2025)
4. Mixed use parking building (23 July 2026)
5. Construction of office building at Fishermen’s Park (30 March 2025)
6. New Male' City Council Building (24 April 2026)
7. Villimale' Outdoor Children’s Park (26 September 2026)
8. Development of 500 housing units in Villimale' (21 October 2026)
9. Construction of 1,500 housing units under Sinamale' Redevelopment (14 January 2028)
10. Construction of Women's Market and Futsal Court in Villimale' ( 24 January 2026)
11. Male' Facilities Upgrade Project (30 November 2024)
The projects will now be overseen by the President's Office, the Ministry of Construction and Infrastructure, the Ministry of Housing, Land and Urban Development and the Ministry of Cities, Local Government and Public Works.
