Foreign Minister concludes trip to Uganda

Minister of Foreign Affairs Moosa Zameer has concluded his visit to Kampala, Uganda.

In a tweet posted Foreign Minister marked significant diplomatic achievement following the successful conclusion of the 19th Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) Summit in Kampala, Uganda. The summit, which was preceded by a Ministerial Meeting, witnessed key discussions and interactions aimed at fostering greater ties among member nations, noted minister.

During the summit, Foreign Minister representing the Maldives, engaged in fruitful dialogues with counterparts and other senior officials. The minister mentioned the meetings served as a platform to broaden the scope of multilateral engagement and strengthen ties with various NAM member countries.

During the trip, Minister Zameer has met with other dignatires in the margins of the NAM Summit, including foreign ministers of Kenya, Malaysia, Nepal, Sri Lanka and South Africa. The discussions ranged key issues such as strengthening relations and opportunities for further collaboration between the countries.

Additionally, Minister Zameer has delivered his remarks at the Ministerial Meeting of NAM, emphasizing the challenges posed by modern complexities and urging Member States to adapt and fortify the Movement's relevance on the international stage. He further recognised the crucial need to revitalize NAM in the face of new and emerging challenges of the globalised world and proposed three key suggestions on this front. In this regard, he called for an overhaul of the existing working methods of the Movement and stressed on the importance of forming weighted and systematic discussions that extend beyond traditional issues.
