Gov't stresses language's vital role in cultural preservation

Minister of Dhivehi Language, Culture, and Heritage Adam Naseer Ibrahim has emphasised the vital role of safeguarding language in preserving the roots of a culture. He made the remarks during the launch of the first segment of a children's video series titled 'Thuhthu Kamana Silsila.'

Speaking at the ceremony, Minister Naseer highlighted the need to protect the Dhivehi language as a means of preserving the culture. He underscored the effectiveness of communication among Maldivians in Dhivehi, attributing the excellence of products created by them to this linguistic cohesion. Citing examples such as the traditional boats and mosques, he pointed out that they stand as expressions of Maldivian identity and a manifestation of the people's profound understanding of their own worth.

Additionally, Minister Naseer emphasised the significance of cultivating a generation that thinks in its native language, aligning with President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu's policy to revive Maldivian nationalism. He conveyed that the series aims to enlighten individuals about their heritage, emphasising their value and skills. He also acknowledged the video series as a modest yet substantial contribution on a national scale, expressing the ministry's commitment to facilitating such activities in the future.

'Thuhthu Kamana Silsila' is a video series designed to nurture an affection for the Dhivehi language in children. Its aim is to make the language engaging for children, using the internet as a medium for easy language learning. The series was created by Shimla Ahmed, an accomplished author of Dhivehi children's books. She received government recognition and was awarded in 2004 for her contributions to literature.
