Over 300 complaints submitted over voters' list

The Elections Commission of the Maldives (ECM) has received 325 complaints so far, regarding the list of eligible voters for the upcoming parliamentary election.

The voters' list for the parliamentary election was publicly disclosed, and the window for submitting complaints opened on January 10, with a deadline set for January 22.

ECM has received a total of 325 complaints regarding the voters' list so far, with the highest amount received on January 17 and 18. On January 17, a total of 97 complaints were submitted, while 90 complaints were submitted on January 18.

The nature of complaints include changes in the addresses of eligible voters, constituting 185 complaints. An additional 131 complaints were submitted on the inclusion of deceased persons' names. A total of four complaints were submitted for changes in polling station assignments and two complaints were lodged for missing names in the voters' list.

ECM has scheduled the parliamentary elections for March 17. The electoral body stated that 284,327 individuals are eligible to vote in the parliamentary elections. It is 1,523 more than the number of eligible voters in last year's presidential election. Notably, a total of 282,804 individuals were deemed eligible to cast their ballots during the second round of the presidential election.
