The Islamic University of the Maldives (IUM) has opened its its learning centre at Ungoofaaru, Raa Atoll.
The agreement was signed on November 28 last year to convert the Islamic centre in Ungoofaaru into an IUM centre in order to expand and facilitate the provision of Islamic higher education in all parts of the country.
Vice Chancellor of IUM Dr. Ali Zahir attended the opening ceremony of the centre. He emphasised the significance of establishing an IUM learning centre in Ungoofaaru, dedicated to Dr. Afrasheem Ali, as a commendable service in his memory.
IUM stated that the Ungoofaaru learning centre will initiate five courses for the January intake. The expansion is particularly beneficial for the sizable population of the atoll, providing increased access to higher education opportunities for students in the region.
