Over 700 complaints submitted over voters' list

The Elections Commission of the Maldives (ECM) has received a total of 746 complaints regarding the list of eligible voters for the upcoming parliamentary election.

Following the publication of the voters' list and the initiation of the complaint submission period on January 10, the deadline for submitting complaints concluded on January 21. The ECM stated that it received a total of 746 complaints regarding the voters' list, with the highest amount received on January 21, totaling 330 complaints.

The complaints concern various issues, including 450 complaints regarding changes in the addresses of eligible voters. A total of 225 complaints were submitted on the inclusion of deceased persons' names. In addition, 40 complaints were submitted on changes in voter constituencies, five complaints regarding missing names in the voters' list, and one complaint addressing a change in ID card information.

A total of 284,327 individuals are eligible to vote in the parliamentary election scheduled for March 17, although the number may undergo changes. The voters' list will reopen for additional complaints from January 30 to February 10, after which the finalisation of the voters' list will take place.
