Addu's electricity issues unaddressed in past five years: Gov't

Minister of Climate Change, Environment and Energy Thoriq Ibrahim has stated that no work has been done in the past five years to fix Addu City's electricity issues. He made the remark during an interview with PSM News during his visit to Addu City.

Minister Thoriq traveled to Addu City to inspect the condition of agencies operating under the environment ministry's mandate. He has visited the sites of Fenaka Corporation Limited and Waste Management Corporation Limited (WAMCO) to inspect the work.

In the interview, Minister Thoriq said the Central Power Station in Addu City is in poor condition. He also said that the new powerhouse has still not been built, emphasizing that parts of the city will be left without electricity if a generator breaks down.

Additionally, Minister Thoriq said the water supply system in Addu City has not been developed as there is only one RO plant in the city. He also discussed the possibilities of improving the waste management during his visit. He highlighted the importance of developing and strengthening the service by Ramadan.

Minister Thoriq also met with the Addu City Council and held discussions on the council's concerns and the services provided by Fenaka and WAMCO.
