LGA to speed up work, foster council participation

Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Local Government Authority (LGA) Mariyam Zulfa has expressed commitment to accelerating their work by fostering the participation of all councils while safeguarding the rights inherent in the decentralisation system. She made the remarks at the ceremony held to inaugurate a programme to train councilors to implement the Residential Tenancy Act.

Speaking at the ceremony, Zulfa identified a key challenge in the decentralisation system as the absence of a robust governance structure. She assured that the government is fully dedicated to providing the necessary resources to strengthen the Decentralisation Act and underscored that there is no intention to restrict any rights associated with the decentralisation system. She emphasised her determination to enhance the system's structure through proactive measures.

Additionally, Zulfa highlighted the government's goal of reinforcing the functionality of local councils. She expressed confidence in President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu's commitment to facilitating the objective without discrimination in delivering services to the public.

Furthermore, Zulfa disclosed that a framework for overseeing council operations is currently in development, with councils set to receive essential technical training. She underscored the commitment to bolstering local governance and ensuring heightened vigilance in monitoring relevant matters.
