Ruling coalition will win supermajority: President

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has expressed confidence that the ruling government coalition will win at least 62 seats in the parliamentary election.

Speaking to journalists during the coalition's primary election, President Muizzu, who is the leader of the People's National Congress, said he was confident that the coalition will receive supermajority after winning at least 62 seats in the parliamentary election. He also vowed to work to fulfill his pledges with sincerity, honesty, and good intentions in order to retain the trust of the people.

Additionally, President Muizzu said the primary election went smoothly and that the relevant authorities will transparently review any complaints submitted regarding the election. Noting that candidates who lose in the primaries tend to contest as independent candidates, he said that the candidates in the ruling coalition have agreed to work with the winning candidates.

A total of 283 candidates contested in 75 constituencies in the primary election held by the ruling coalition, which consists of the Progressive Party of the Maldives (PPM) and the Congress Party. A total of 71,597 members were eligible to vote in the primary.
