ECM opens re-registration for parliamentary election

The Elections Commission of the Maldives (ECM) has opened the opportunity for individuals the are registered to vote at a location different from their designated island to re-register for the upcoming parliamentary election.

ECM said that the opportunity will remain open until 1600hrs from February 1-7. Individuals interested in re-registering in a different place or island than the one registered during the second round of the presidential election can apply within the specified timeframe. In addition, individuals initially registered in resorts, abroad, industrial sites and prisons will now have their registration transferred to their permanent addresses.

ECM has provided options for checking the registered voter information through its website and by sending a message to 1414. Applications for re-registration, specifically for a different place of residence, can only be submitted through the commission's online re-registration portal. In Male' City, online registration will be available at the Dharubaaruge convention centre, the main headquarters of ECM.

For online submissions through the re-registration portal, applicants must include a copy of an official document verifying their status as a voter. ECM noted that re-registration forms can be submitted through the eFaas application, and in this case, applicants are not required to provide a photograph or images of both sides of the ID card.

ECM has confirmed the date for the parliamentary election, which is set to take place on March 17.
