Maldives and EU discuss tariff reduction on Maldivian fish exports

The Maldives has held discussions with the European Union (EU) on reducing the tariff on Maldivian fish products exported to European countries.

The discussion was held between Minister of Foreign Affairs Moosa Zameer and Member of the European Parliament, Nicola Procaccini, during Minister Zameer's official visit to Brussels, Belgium. During the meeting, they discussed tariff reduction on Maldivian fish products, visa free travel for Maldivians to Europe and explored opportunities to further enhance cooperation between the Maldives and EU.

During his visit, Minister Zameer also met with Paola Pampaloni, Deputy Managing Director of the European External Action Service. During the meeting, they discussed tackling climate change, economic development, security cooperation, reduction of tariffs on Maldivian tuna by the EU and visa free travel to Europe for Maldivians.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has stated that the Maldives and the EU have a strong partnership in addressing common challenges and cooperation between the two holds substantial geopolitical and economic significance. As such, Minister Zameer's visit marks a significant step towards strengthening ties and advancing cooperation between the Maldives and EU on areas of mutual concern. He is also scheduled to participate in the third EU Indo-Pacific Ministerial Forum.
