Minister of Housing, Land and Urban Development Dr. Ali Haidar Ahmed has said that the areas being reclaimed in Male' will be populated under proper land use plans. He made the remark while speaking to PSM News during his visit to the site where land plot registries are being distributed to recipients of land plots in Gulhifalhu, Giraavafu Falhu, and Hulhumale'.
Speaking to PSM News, Minister Haidar said that the list of land plot recipients was finalised when the new administration took office and the process of distributing the land plot registries is ongoing. He also said the areas where the land plots have been allocated do not have land use plans, which would make it difficult for residents to move in.
As such, Minister Haidar said the reclaimed areas will be settled under a proper land use plan, adding that plans for some areas have already been finalized and are in the process of approval. He detailed that the plans are being formulated with basic services such as water and sewerage systems as well as mosques, schools, hospitals, and sports facilities.
Additionally, Minister Haidar noted that Giraavaru Falhu, Gulhifalhu, and Hulhumale' Phase III were not reclaimed when the new administration took office, but that reclamation is now progressing at a fast pace. He assured that the land plots will be allocated in these areas without any alterations to their size.
Moreover, Political Director of Communication at the Housing Ministry Ismail Inash Saeed said the land plot registration process will continue during the holidays. He said the aim is to complete the work as soon as possible by handing over land registries to 50 recipients every day. He added that those who do not answer the phone will also be handed over the land registration in a prescribed order.
The government is providing over 9,000 land plots to residents of Male' under the Binveriya housing scheme. The plots are being allocated from Hulhumale' Phase II and by reclaiming Gulhi Falhu and Giraavaru Falhu. A total of 19,639 individuals were deemed eligible in the final list of the Binveriya scheme. The government is giving out around 5,400 land plots from Giraavaru Falhu, 2,200 from Gulhi Falhu, and 1,300 from Hulhumale' Phase II.
