Minister of Islamic Affairs Dr. Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed has stated that the compilation of the Hajj pilgrims' list will take place in February.
President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has committed to sending 1,000 individuals, who are financially unable to undertake the Hajj pilgrimage, within the first five years of his term. He has announced that the initial group of 50 people will embark on the Hajj pilgrimage this year.
Speaking to PSM News, Minister Shaheem disclosed that the guidelines for bringing individuals for the state-funded Hajj pilgrimage have been publicly released. He mentioned the establishment of a special committee within the Islamic ministry, dedicated to completing the necessary procedures within the next two weeks. He also emphasised their goal to finalise the selection of the initial 50 individuals in February, ensuring the distribution of notifications according to the established regulations.
As per the regulations, individuals under the age of 69 in good health will be chosen from the poor register. The state will cover the travel expenses for those from the atolls, as well as the costs associated with any health issues during the Hajj pilgrimage. The Maldives Hajj Corporation Limited will also manage the transportation arrangements for individuals.
