President unveils plans for 20 new resorts across the Maldives

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has disclosed that a minimum of 20 new resorts are slated for development across the country this year. The announcement was made during a meeting with the residents of Madifushi at the school.

Addressing the gathering, President Muizzu affirmed the government's unwavering commitment to collaborating with the island's residents, emphasising extensive efforts to expand the tourism industry. Simultaneously, he highlighted the government's dedication to positioning the Maldives as a self-sustainable destination that attracts investors.

The President assured that, upon the council's prioritisation of projects, the government would continue working diligently, focusing on addressing the most crucial issues identified by the community.

In his address, President Muizzu elaborated on the decentralisation policy, underscoring the government's intent to empower local councils and foster economic development. He outlined measures to augment the income of councils, including the allocation of islands within the council's jurisdiction and, when necessary, islands from other atolls or constituencies with the cooperation of the respective communities.

Highlighting ongoing initiatives, the President addressed the housing problem, assuring that the government would provide loans to address housing concerns. Additionally, efforts to improve the economic and financial status of government companies were underscored.

During the gathering, Madifushi residents voiced their concerns, urging the modernisation of roads, housing solutions, extension of Uhuriya and Kolhufushi to Madifushi's jurisdiction, shore protection, a clean drinking water supply project, and expedited progress on various island initiatives. Residents also requested a causeway to connect Dhiyamigili and Madifushi.

Madifushi marks the third destination on President Muizzu's three-day visit to selected islands in Thaa Atoll.
