President commits to address issues in Buruni

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has reassured the residents of Buruni that the government is committed to addressing their concerns. He made the statement while addressing the residents of Buruni, as part of his current tour of some islands in Thaa Atoll.

In his speech, President Dr. Muizzu highlighted beach erosion as a significant obstacle hindering local tourism in Buruni. As such, he gave his assurance to expedite and implement delayed projects in line with the residents' preferences. He emphasised the island port's progress was a primary challenge, acknowledging setbacks since its inception under the previous administration.

Additionally, President Dr. Muizzu outlined the government's policy to incorporate uninhabited islands within the jurisdiction of island councils, following established guidelines. He noted that Buruni has the opportunity to seek jurisdiction under the guidelines, boosting the island's revenue and income. He also reiterated the need to prioritise development plans to align with the country’s economic goals.

Concluding his speech, President Dr. Muizzu affirmed that Buruni would undergo similar initiatives as part of the government's policy to build children's parks and exercise spaces across the country.
