T-Jetty to be relocated to Thilafushi along with commercial harbor

CEO of Maldives Ports Limited (MPL), Mohamed Wajeeh Ibrahim, has confirmed the relocation of t-jetty to Thilafushi, Kaafu Atoll, alongside the Male' Commercial Harbor.

Speaking on a programme aired on PSM News, Wajeeh highlighted the significant government initiative to shift Male' Commercial Harbor to Thilafushi, characterising it as one of the most crucial endeavors. He stated the President has prioritised this project since the beginning of his term, with a goal to complete the relocation within five years.

Addressing questions about North Harbor and t-jetty, Wajeeh explained their roles in transporting goods to the atolls and resorts, respectively. He mentioned that future plans include relocating the North Harbor to the same area.

Wajeeh reported that the necessary land reclamation for constructing the commercial port in Thilafushi has been completed. Currently in the design phase, the MPL aims to finalise the facility by 2026.

Additionally, he shared details about the completed port, including a 600-meter international keywall capable of accommodating three large ships simultaneously. Wajeeh noted that the contractor is poised to commence work soon.

MPL envisions a substantial reduction in cargo ship clearance time, from the current 5 to 9 days, to a projected 2 or 3 days upon the successful relocation of the port to Thilafushi.
