President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has held a meeting with the members of the Island Council of Hoarafushi and the Women's Development Committee (WDC) at the Secretariat of the Hoarafushi Council.
During the meeting, the Council emphasized the importance of advancing the iHaven project, implementing a modern waste management system to address waste disposal issues, tackling ice shortages from the ice plant, and promptly initiating projects allocated for the current year. Additionally, the Council conveyed concerns regarding halted projects and emphasized the necessity of land reclamation to address housing needs.
The Women's Development Committee members expressed concerns over budget constraints, a common issue faced by WDCs across islands. In response, President Muizzu acknowledged these concerns and affirmed that resolving budgetary constraints is within the legal framework. He committed to working towards addressing this issue and ensuring the effective functioning of the WDCs.
Ministers in attendance provided updates on the highlighted concerns and projects raised by the Council. President Muizzu assured that projects would be initiated in alignment with the increase in state revenue, and the government would make every effort to address the issues raised by the Council.
